In April there was a divergence between developed and emerging markets. For example, the MSCI World Index rose 1.8%, while the MSCI Emerging Markets Index fell 1.1%.
The rise in developed markets was fuelled by progress in vaccination and excellent earning results. Emerging markets, especially India, were again hit by increasing infections from the virus.
